Admins can now enter a Training Duration when manually marking a training as complete on an employee’s behalf. This optional field captures how long the training took and is reflected on the training certificate — giving organizations more accurate time tracking for trainings completed outside of Flex.
1. About Training Duration on Mark Complete
The Mark Complete action allows admins to manually record that an employee has completed a training — even if the training was completed outside the LMS (such as an in-person training, instructor-led session, or external course).
With this update, when an admin marks a training complete, they now have the option to also enter how long that training took. This duration is then:
- Saved with the training completion record for reporting
- Displayed on the training certificate generated for the completion
The Training Duration field is optional, so admins can skip it if the duration isn’t known or isn’t needed.
2. Marking a Training Complete with a Duration
There are two places where you can mark a training as complete and enter a Training Duration:
- From an employee’s profile — in the ‘Trainings’ section
- From the Employee Trainings list — the central list view of all employee trainings
To manually mark a training complete and enter a duration:
- Navigate to either the employee’s profile (Trainings section) or the Employee Trainings list
- Locate the training you want to mark complete
- Click Add
- In the dialog that appears, enter the duration of the training in the Training Duration field (optional)
- Complete any other required fields
- Click Save to record the completion
The training will now be marked as complete for the employee, with the duration recorded against the completion.
3. Training Duration on Certificates
When a Training Duration is entered at the time of completion, it appears on the training certificate generated for that completion.
If no duration is entered, the certificate will display without a duration value — the field is optional and does not affect whether a certificate is generated.
4. Tips for Using Training Duration
- Use it for trainings completed outside Flex — The Training Duration field is most useful for in-person trainings, instructor-led sessions, and other learning where Flex doesn’t automatically track time
- Skip it if it doesn’t apply — The field is optional. If duration isn’t relevant for the training or you don’t have the information, leave it blank
- Consider organizational standards — If your organization tracks training time for compliance or reporting, establish standards for what duration values to enter so reporting is consistent across admins
5. Important Considerations
- The Training Duration field on Mark Complete is only available when admins manually mark a training as complete — it does not apply to trainings completed automatically through the LMS, which are tracked separately
- The Training Duration field is optional and leaving it blank will not prevent the training from being marked complete or a certificate from being generated
- If a duration needs to be updated after the training has been marked complete, admins can edit the completion record and adjust the value
